Jesus Ministry: Faith under Fire

Fire can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Good when it does what we desire it to do. Such as having a camp fire, keeping warm, and cooking. But when it is the opposite, such as fire from a cigarette flick near an open gas cooker in a house, the fire can destroy the home, and God forbid, the people in it when rescue is delayed. And should it spread beyond the home to other homes and the neighborhood, the fire becomes bad and destructive.

Such negative outcome is akin to having one’s faith under fire.

Like a muscle, your faith has not atrophied because you have continuously exercised it and gotten positive results. You’ve prayed, read and meditated on scriptures, fasted, in the past and gotten speedy results. You did all that, too. Only now the unthinkable is happening. No result. And heaven seems like brass over your head.

What do you do? What do you do when your faith is tested by failure, rejection, lack, frustration, everything is at a standstill, bills unpaid, children sick, spouse misbehaving, and God seems to be silent or had forgotten you? What do you do?

Hebrews 12:29 tells us that “our God is a consuming fire.” He (God) comes (or sends the fire) to consume what should not have been in the first place. In the Bible, Fire is denoted by several things allegorically and symbolically serving different purposes.

It is written that “faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.” That’s Hebrew Chapter 11, Verse 1. Hebrews Chapter 11 is termed the Faith Chapter. I meditate on the chapter several times until I feel it in my spirit when my faith is under fire. Meditating on the chapter changes things.

The fire sometimes come to purge out the chaff from the wheat and those things that ought not to be in our lives. When the fire comes though, to us it seems like we will be consumed by it. But afterwards, we are glad for the purge and the remnants are what cannot be moved or shaken. In the process however it did not look good. Just as a diamond’s cut and clarity is shaped and obtained by going through fire (up to 1562°F), so are we sometimes taken through fire to become better.

Faith tells us to hope for the opposite of all that is testing us and speak the desired outcome into existence. We refuse to be moved by our circumstances. Faith is not believing in what is visible; what we see. If we do, it is not faith. But when all circumstances tell you that you cannot get out of your mess, and you “prophesy” to yourself and call the things that be not as though they were, that my friend is exercising your faith. You will get what you speak.

I dare you now to speak life to every dead thing in your life and speak to every mountain to be moved and call for angelic help. And after you have done all that you know to do, stand. Stand therefore believing that God’s got this.

Faith is action. You have done your part. Now await God’s part.

To recap, when your faith is on fire:

  1. Pray
  2. Meditate on the Faith Chapter, Hebrews 11
  3. Stand and put on the whole armor of God
  4. Wait for, and on, God. Waiting on God does not mean that you sit still and fold your arms. It means that you keep doing what you are supposed to do while believing that your circumstances will change.

I pray that God will answer you speedily in Jesus Name.
